There's something magical about hiking in spring. Nature gently awakens, birds sing again, flowers carpet the undergrowth… and the trails come back to life. At Baroudeur Camp, we love this season of renewal. So, we're taking you on a tour of our favorite spots for spring hiking, the ones that make us jump out of bed without hesitation, with backpacks on and boots laced up.
1. The Verdon and its Flowery Cliffs
In early April, the Verdon Gorges offer a magnificent spectacle. The turquoise water contrasts with the white cliffs, and the first wild flowers cling to the walls. The Blanc-Martel trail, still uncrowded at this time, is a joy to hike. A true breath of fresh air, far from the crowds.
2. The Vercors and its Awakened Alpine Pastures
This is our secret favorite: in spring, the high plateaus of the Vercors are covered with crocuses and primroses. The calm there is almost surreal, and the morning light sublimates the landscapes. The Col du Rousset or the surroundings of Villard-de-Lans are perfect for a day hike.
3. The Gentle Cévennes
Not too hot yet, not too dry yet… the Cévennes in spring are a green paradise. We love following the "drailles," these ancient transhumance paths. With a bit of luck, you might even spot some sheep on their way to the summits. Mont Aigoual or the Stevenson Trail are our must-sees.
4. The Forest of Fontainebleau, Wild Side
An hour from Paris, this is our express nature getaway. In March or April, the trails are lined with anemones and bluebells, and the sandstone boulders take on golden hues in the setting sun. Ideal for a gentle hike combined with a bit of climbing or meditation in the heart of the woods.
5. The Basque Country, Vibrant Green
When spring arrives on the Basque coast, everything explodes with color. The still-cool mountains are covered with pastures of an almost fluorescent green. The Mondarrain loop or the trail to La Rhune are perfect for combining effort, breathtaking views, and a little stop in a typical village for a slice of Basque cake.
