What backpack should I choose for a 2-day trip?

Quel sac à dos choisir pour une sortie de 2 jours ?

Two days in the wilderness. No need to go far to feel the adventure: a weekend hike, a night in a tent or a mountain hut, and that sense of freedom that returns with the first steps. But before you go, a big question arises: what backpack should you take for a 2-day trip?

At Baroudeur Camp, we've tested a lot of models in a lot of conditions. And here's what we keep in mind when preparing for this kind of getaway.

The ideal capacity: between 30 and 45 liters

For two days, you need the perfect balance: enough space to carry the essentials, but not too much so you don't get overloaded.

  • A 30 to 35 L bag is sufficient if you sleep in a refuge or if you travel light.

  • Plan for 40 to 45 L if you're taking a tent, sleeping bag, and stove.

Tip: test your load at home to see if everything fits without forcing it.

Comfort above all

Two days means hours of walking. So, focus on:

  • A well-ventilated back to avoid overheating,

  • Well-padded shoulder straps and hip belt,

  • And a good adjustment system to fit the bag to your body.

A well-fitting bag means less fatigue, less pain... and more enjoyment on the trail.

Practical little extras

Some details change everything:

  • Side pockets for water bottles or snacks,

  • A front opening to access the bottom without emptying everything,

  • An integrated rain cover,

  • And external straps for attaching sleeping pads, poles, or a tent.

At baroudeurcamp.com, we like bags that are lightweight, robust, and well-designed. Whether you're a minimalist hiker or a comfort lover, we have the model you need. Plus, we'll help you choose based on your size, skill level, and itinerary.
