Respect nature: good outdoor habits to adopt

Respecter la nature : les bons réflexes outdoor à adopter

We go hiking to breathe, to reconnect, to marvel. But if we want to continue enjoying this nature that does us so much good, it is essential to take care of it. And that starts with small, simple gestures — easy habits to adopt that make all the difference.

Here, I share with you the best practices to keep in mind every time you step outside, whether for a one-hour stroll or a multi-day road trip.

1. Leave No Trace

This is THE golden rule. Everything you bring with you must leave with you. Packaging, food scraps, tissues... Nothing should be left behind. Even biodegradable waste (like fruit peels) takes time to disappear.

👉 Tip: always carry a small bag for your trash, even on a short hike!

2. Be Careful with Fire

A campfire is nice... but it's also a huge responsibility. During dry periods or in certain sensitive areas, it can be strictly prohibited. Use a stove, follow local guidelines, and never light a fire if it's not explicitly allowed.

3. Respect Wildlife and Flora

No wild foraging, no petting cute animals (however tempting), no unnecessary noise. Nature is not a backdrop: it's a living ecosystem. Observing without disturbing is already an act of respect.

4. Stay on Marked Trails

Even if the urge to explore tickles you, going off-trail can damage fragile vegetation and disturb wildlife. Paths are there for a good reason: follow them!

5. Use Eco-Friendly Products

If you're camping, opt for biodegradable soap and avoid chemicals near rivers. What goes into the water can take years to disappear... or kill an entire ecosystem.

6. Prioritize Reusable Items

Water bottles, stainless steel containers, fabric bags: say goodbye to single-use plastic. In addition to being more practical and attractive, these durable items significantly reduce your impact.

7. Raise Awareness Around You

By respecting nature, you set an example. Talk about it around you, share your good practices, introduce your children to it. The planet will thank you — and so will future generations.

Taking care of nature isn't about being perfect. It's about doing your best, every time you go out, so that our favorite spots remain as beautiful tomorrow as they are today.
